From on High
I was invited for coffee this morning to the airy eyrie of a neighbour, and marvelled at the view from her 7th floor penthouse flat over the south of Edinburgh to Blackford Hill with its observatory and the distant Pentland Hills, the ski slope just visible as a white scar.
It did seem like being in a remote nest in the trees above the world beneath. There was even a touch of vertigo as I walked gingerly to the edge of the decking knowing that there was only the waist high glass shield between me and a spectacular fall to earth; an earth where the tree surgeons are again busy with their saws, lopping huge branches off beautiful old trees in front of the house, leaving stark leafless limbs.
I hope they are going to finish the job satisfactorily.
