Lytes Cary

N and I had a glorious afternoon.  We drove to Lytes Cary Manor and had an interesting visit to this medieval house.  The rooms  are small and panelled, a log fire was burning in the open fireplace in the great hall and the chapel and gardens were a joy to see especially at this time of year.  Lytes Cary was the home of the Lyte family and Henry Lyte (1529-1607), a herbalist, translated the works of the Flemish herbalist Rembert Dodoens'  "Cruydeboeck" into English, a copy is there for all to see, and I have just finished the book entitled The Knot by Jane Borodale which describes the daily life and problems of Henry Lyte at  his home in the end of the 16C.

Meanwhile poor T was shovelling out the grain pits which is one of the worst jobs on the farm as it is a filthy smelly backbreaking job, but he survived!
