Mistimed journey home

I'd been warned about this, but today was the first time I'd been caught out. 

If you try to get in to Oxford Circus tube station at any time around 6.00 in the evening this is what you're likely to get caught up in. They actually close off all entrances to the station to ease overcrowding on the platforms. Once you're caught up in the queue you have the dilemma of wondering whether to stay and hope it won't be too long, or go to another station which will involve a 10 minute walk. It's also actually quite difficult to get out of the queue once you're in it. 

Lesson learned.
