Experiment
Turns out rhubabarb only needs warmth to grow but light is not that essential. In fact, it grows happily in complete darkness.
For some reason, the rhubarb in my two neighbours' gardens grow at least twice as fast as mine so I decided to try if placing a bucket on the plant early in the spring would really help.
Well, it clearly does. The plant under the bucket grew much faster and larger than the one outside it so I bought a larger one that covers them both. And now we're just waiting for the second batch to grow a bit more before making a pie. Or crumble. Or salsa. Or...!
Who would have thought!
