Here there and everywhere

Through the Blinds

This is part of our view from the terrace where we're resting our weary legs from the heat and dust of the Cairo streets this afternoon: a typical Cairo view and the kind which has become familiar and appreciated over the last four years. The view belies the comfort and tranquility of the terrace which we have to ourselves and we imagined how nice it would be like to live in a flat with our own outside space here.

We had brunch this morning at The Left Bank (hip, trendy place-to-be-seen, right on the Nile) with two colleagues. After they left, Bb had an accident when he stood up and his shorts completely split up the back! Exactly the type of place where you don't want that to happen! Luckily, he was carrying a spare t-shirt and wore that round his waist until we found a shop in Zamelek where he bought new shorts. We also popped into the wee jewellers near the Flamenco Hotel, where I've bought bits and bobs before, and made a little purchase. The owner knows us now, knows our bargaining skills are next to nowt (especially at 35 degrees) and so it makes the process easier all round!

It's now early evening and the air is filled with the call to prayer and birdsong. We're still on the terrace.

I might not even have to go into school this weekend :-). And that's my blips up to date.
