Disappointing

We have long since wanted to visit La Couvertoirade in the Aveyron. It is a fortress village built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century.  Today we went there.  The village is amazingly intact, having been inhabited until the 19th century.  Nowadays it is given over to crafts and arts and restaurants. However, unlike many French historical sights like, say, the cathedral in Chartres, which dates from around the same time, La Couvertoirade gave off no sense of history, no spiritual lingerings, no sense of being somewhere where special things happened.  This cat was the most interesting thing that we saw.  Oh well, we did always want to see the place, now we have!!
