Eilein

We went up to Loch Garten and first of all walked down to Loch Mallachie - aah! We said hello to the wood ants on the way back and then went along to the osprey centre to hear the latest gossip and see some lovely little birds at the feeders. After a brief pause in Aviemore, whilst the steam train chuffed past, we went down to Loch an Eilein and walked all of the way round it, through magnificent primaeval Caledonian pine forest. Double aah!

This is the ruined castle on the eilein in its eponymous loch. A prize (of no financial value) goes to the first person to spot the oyster-catcher......

In the evening we watched a couple of programmes on the TV, including one about the Gretna/Quintinshill disaster. Horrible. You can see how it must have affected Leith by looking at the Google map.
