Four Seats in the Sun

The weather gods decided to smile benignly on the sun starved people north of Hadrian's wall today. There were blue skies, deep shadows and a warmth forgotten during the last few weeks. The small café at the edge of the Meadows had their colourful tables set out early.
The sunshade has been hoisted over the patio and I can almost visualise a glass of wine being enjoyed later in the afternoon if those gods continue to smile.

In fact with the spring in our step making a comeback, we had a fine dander round the area, marvelling at the number of people jogging, boot camp training, kicking footballs or throwing frisbees.
Particularly cute were the throngs of tiny boys and girls aged about 5, watched by devoted parents, exhibiting their skills with footballs almost as big as themselves.

Changed days indeed. I played hockey every Saturday during my teenage years and not once did my parents turn up to see me on the field; in fact I can't remember ever seeing any spectators.
Perhaps it was different for my brother playing rugby, but I doubt it.
As for my own children, if they did any Saturday morning sport, I wasn't on the side line.
