For Jennifer

Over the past 23 years my life has been enhanced by the friendship of a group of six brilliant, funny, caring, generous, chatty, loyal, dependable women.  Once upon a time we all worked in the same school. Promotions and retirements reduced our day to day contact, but the bonds continue, fuelled by regular evenings out and the knowledge that we are there for each other, growing older, if not wiser, together..

We were seven:  now, unexpectedly and to our enormous sadness, we are six.
