Cumbria Here I Come

Bluebells at Rannerdale

What a glorious day today, so an early start for me this morning as wanted to see the bluebells at Rannerdale before the crowds!  We got there just before 9am and we weren't the only early ones there.  The bluebells were looking glorious in the sunshine so lots of photos were taken.  I've noticed that the bluebells there are a lot smaller than the ones in woodlands.

After we left the main bluebell area I we followed a path we hadn't been on before which was fine until we got to a beck which needed crossing and the bridge was broken!!  A family in front of me got across with the help of the husband and he insisted on helping me, gulp!  I am such a woos after a fall I had trying to cross a beck a couple of years ago also at Rannerdale, I was all for turning back but he insisted and promised he wouldn't let me fall in :)  So I trusted him and got across with his help, don't think I'll be going that way again unless I have my poles with me.  It was heaving by the time we got back to the car so grabbed the bag with lunch inside, walked a little way up a hill and had lunch sat by the beck, it was bliss.

Whilst having lunch we saw hundreds (and I'm not exaggerating) of very old Ford cars driving along the very narrow road in a lots of convoys,   so made things interesting and just when you think you've seen it all along comes a lady on a mobility scooter with a collie secured by a chain and sitting very still on the little platform by her legs!!

Today's extra  photo is reflections in Crummock Water which was like a mill pond as we drove by en route to Rannerdale.
