Day 3, Avila and Salamanca

Up early, breakfast then onto the coach for a 2 hour drive to Avila.  This is the walled city were they made the film 'The Pride and The Passion' with Frank Sinatra.

As we approached the city we noticed the outside temperature was only 10 degrees, we were dressed in t shirts and shorts, I at least had a cardigan.  We froze, did a quick walk round the town, into a café for a warming coffee and there we stayed until it was time to board the coach to Salamanca.

Salamanca was a bit warmer, we had a guided tour of the city, very informative guide.  The only problem for him was that he had to translate everything into English, German and Spanish.  He did favour the English, which upset the Germans no end.

The Collage shows the walls of the city of Avila, part of the roof construction inside the Cathedral and the stonemasons little foible, a carved frog, on top of one of skulls, which adorn the outside of the Cathedral.

The carving of the astronaught was done when the Cathedral stonemasons did some rennovations.
