Birthday Balloon
When I bought John a hot air balloon flight for his birthday over two years ago, little did we realise how long it would be in actually happening. The first company went into liquidation - I was able to get my money back. I bought another balloon flight with a more local set up, but the weather was so bad last year that six bookings were cancelled. Hot air balloons are incredibly twitchy and need almost perfect conditions - almost no wind,no rain and the cloud base must not be too low.
Today it actually happened! A good day in fact - our wedding anniversary, plus we had all the grandchildren here and they just loved the whole experience, even down to the balloon chasing to find where it was landing. Eldest grandson, Michael, was a useful pair of eyes. These balloons are enormous but disappear surprisingly quickly behind a tree or hedge. Michael's call of ...'It's over there! ' meant we headed in the right direction! Cars have to follow roads!
I had four of my grandchildren in the car and whilst waiting for the balloonists to pack away their balloon and sip their obligatory champagne, we played really fun games of I-spy!
Eventually home and pancakes for supper before bundling them all into bed. They should sleep well as it's been a long day with an exciting end. Tomorrow we are off to Odds Farm for tractor rides, looking at animals and other fun things. I am now realising the delight of being a Granny!
