A thunderstorm over Newport
I wanted absolutely not to spend the day indoors, so I grabbed my camera and headed for the sea. I had a vague inkling that it might rain, but I hadn't anticipated anything quite like this.
As I drove, small raindrops started to splash against my windshield and I'd almost given up, thinking that I'd actually been driving away from the storm instead of into it. When I got to the park, however, I was proven blissfully wrong.
I watched it brew over Newport and then up and over Jamestown, the island where I stood precariously with a camera. I stayed for the full storm and with the other intrepid/crazy people around me, smiled and awed at each new thick bolt of lightning.
I loved this couple under the umbrella, which is where I might've been too on a different day. I felt a little bad for them when the winds kicked up and they were forced to scramble back to their car,but they were smiling and laughing the whole way back.
