Day 222 - Hampi

Hampi is incredible. A boulder filled landscape strewn with old temples and market places, with a river running through and coconut trees filling the gaps. The remains of the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire from the 1340s to the 1560s are dotted around in all directions. This is the Achyutaraya temple which we came upon in the late afternoon, a huge place which we had almost to ourselves. In the photo you can also see the pillars of the market area where stones and diamonds were sold. My photos are not going to do Hampi justice.
