The Hunt

It's dinner time around my house, and I noticed while we were dining on the deck that the red Shouldered Hawk was hovering above hunting for food (fresh meat). I haven't seen him for a while, but maybe it's because he's not the only fresh meat eating bird of prey in the neighborhood. There is a Grey Horned Owl who has been living in our front yard for years now. Perhaps too much competition for food has kept my Red Shouldered feathered friend away! He was too far up in the sky, the wrong zoom lens, and cloudy sunset conditions didn't afford decent details of this bird, but I believe the image I captured kind of gives an idea of this species..
