Bah Humbug!
D on holiday again today so once the children left for school we took Coco for a walk in Callendar Woods. It was a lovely morning and we had a great walk finishing off at the house where Coco had a run about after her tennis ball and made friends with two older gentlemen and their dogs. They lavished praise and treats on Coco but had to cut short their conversation as they said their crow was waiting for them, and so it was. Standing on the grass, a little distance away, the crow was waiting patiently to be rewarded with it's treat. I loved the thought of these lovely gentleman taking the same walk every morning and feeding dogs and birds as they go.
So, Bah Humbug - today is the Queens Diamond Jubilee, something I'll never see again and very unlikely that either of my children will but today Falkirk Council, along with only one other council in Scotland decided that today would be business as usual and the children were at school! They did refer to their employees before making the decision but the questionnaire asked so may questions and offered so many alternatives that seemed to come down to the holiday costing too much and resulting in redundancies that there was no clear cut feeling as what the staff wanted to do so the Council managed to do what they wanted! The schools that both my children go to did their best to celebrate and make the day special but a bit of a bad taste left in many peoples mouths that the work that one lady has done over the past 60 years could not be celebrated!
