Diary of an Edinburgher

Another friend for Archie

While enjoying my breakfast in the kitchen this morning, I eventually became aware of a crunching noise in the distance... I went to investigate.

The TV was ON. Archie had switched it on. He was behind the sofa, chewing one of the remote controls! He's never touched them before, and they're always on the coffee table. Would have been worse if he'd done it when I was out - there's only one broken button - which I rescued from his mouth - and thank goodness it's not the MUTE, my most used button.

We popped down to see a Uncle A, bearing the first of the Scottish strawberries. I haven't been able to make it down there for a week or so, but got up the stairs no bother. Well, not exactly skipping up them (I'll never be able to do that again!), but not gasping.

In the afternoon we met up with another prospective dog buddy person, Michelle. We had arranged to meet her at the corner of the Meadows. While we waited, I lay on the ground and tried to get some photos of Archie in a patch of daisies. Meanwhile, Michelle, waiting in another part, couldn't see us behind the big bush. Then she spotted a cute wee schnauzer... and a daft old biddie sprawled out on the ground, possibly unable to get up unaided.

We had a walk in the Meadows while Michelle kept calling Archie back and rewarding him. He thinks anyone who gives him treats is a friend! Michelle will be a good dog buddy person - she loves dogs. And she loves Archie. We won't be contacting anyone else - two's enough to be going on with and will give us options for, say, a day away. Or maybe eventually, a weekend away. But don't tell him that...
