Not so ugly duckling

I thought I'd check on the three pairs of nesting swans in Home Park today and even my hard and cynical old heart was warmed by the sight of the four one-day old cygnets at the Dew Pond. The mother is still sitting on two eggs but I imagine that these won't now hatch. Worryingly a large grey heron was lurking in the reeds by the edge of the pond but hopefully the cob will see him off should he get ideas about a cygnet dinner!

The only pity was that the light was so mucky - typical bank holiday weather really! No sign of any little ones at the other two nests but I shall be going back on a daily basis to bring you further doses of extreme cuteness.
