Brown Argus
Despite the rather chilly wind at Whitemoor, this pair of Brown Argus butterflies found a sheltered spot for their courtship and mating. They were completely unperturbed by having a lens poked towards them!
We had to leave the site fairly early as I was leading a walk for the local Wildlife Trust at Upwood Meadows in the evening. I must admit I was almost too tired, but there was a large and enthusiastic group, which carried me through. The green-winged orchids were just about perfect, though most of the other grassland species had a long way to go.
Alex and Ben came with us, and we all went to the Admiral Wells for a pub meal afterwards - a really nice way to end a busy day.
