Butterfly

I confess my butterfly identification skills are not up to snuff, so I don't know what kind this one is. I'm sure my granddaughter Maya would be able to tell me. It waited for me on a fennel plant to go back home and get my camera to take this picture. 

Addendum: I'm told by my Berkeley buddy that it is an anise swallowtail
