Just Walking in the Rain

In Dublin today it rained. Not a lot of rain but just enough to bring out the umbrellas. Or the Brollies. Or the Gamps as my old grandmother used to say.
Does anyone out there know where the word "gamp" came from. I have an idea but I'll say nothing until I hear from you guys.
