Jubilee Olympics
Last day of the Jubilee celebrations and a party was organised at quite short notice in the Village Hall. It was a case of bring a plate of food and your own booze, with the music supplied by local talent.
It turned out to be a cracking night, kicking off with some country dancing followed by musical performances on the accordian/ keyboard and pipes/drums, the latter getting an encore for their rendition of Highland Cathedral. The food, dancing and music, which brought all parts of the community together, made for a splendid evening.
After the signing of the National Anthem it was announced that we should all go outside to welcome a special visitor before the evening was rounded off with some fireworks. And there on the road outside the hall was a runner carrying the Olympic Torch, flanked by her security guards. A quick lap of the car park and it was time for the flame to be extinguished. The irony of the situation was not lost on the crowd who were aware that the nearest the real Olympic Flame gets to Carradale is the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland, not the one hour's travel that is claimed for most of the country!
Jubilee and Olympics in one night - brilliant!
