Surfing the "Eisbach", Munich
Just before leaving Munich, stopped at the above to see "the action" as they say. It's also quite a tourist attraction these days and the surfers love it (and the attention). Back when I was 17 or so, around 35 years ago !, I occasionally surfed here too.
We used a scaffolding board plank, about 90cm long and 40 wide and 3cm thick. It was attached to a long climbing rope that was was secured from the edge of the stream or a around the the bridge support pillar. We would let let ourselves drop back with the strong current, the climbing rope would slowly stretch and stretch further. When sufficient tension had built up in the rope we would tilt to the side and immerse in the strong current. At some point we would then catapult out of the water and cover 10 or 15 meters in a second or so, so the the thrill was quite intense. Don't think I would do what these guy's do as they are pretty good surfers that pass regularly.
Hope that wasn't too boring ;)
