DEAD SIMPLE
Went to the Theatre Royal in Newcastle this afternoon. The production was " Dead Simple " - a play based on the book by Peter James. I started reading this book on a train journey to London a few years ago. On the return journey I read some more but didn't finish the the book. And that's it - I never did read to the end. So when I saw that this play was on I decided to go and see how everything turned out. So pleased I did because it was excellent. According to the local press the story has " more twists than a drunk on a dancefloor ". And it did. You never knew what was going to happen next. Most of the actors - and the only actress - were famous for being on TV in Emmerdale, Corrie, Easterners and Holby. It was great to see lots of familiar faces. Just before the half time interval there were 3 characters on stage - 2 men and one woman. It was a crucial moment in the plot and these 3 actors suddenly got a fit of the giggles. They just couldn't stop. Every time they tried to get a straight face and carry on they burst out laughing again. ( This is called 'Corpsing' - it was originally a 'slang' term used as an explanation of when an actor forgets their lines or freezes on stage, similar to a 'corpse' as in a dead body. Over time it started being used to describe moments when an actor unintentionally breaks character during a scene by laughing or by causing another cast member to laugh.)This giggling and laughing seemed to go on for ages though it was probably only a minute or two. They managed to compose themselves and continue. I have never seen this happen before . The audience found it hilarious.
Came out of the theatre around 4.30pm. Weather was rainy and cold. I whizzed round the shops getting a few bits and pieces. When I got home Neil was here so I cooked tea for both of us.
Then a quick turnaround for me as my sister in law arrived to take me to her house to spend the evening with my brother and her. Lots of chat and some nice ( mostly syn free ) nibbles. Got home around 1am so no time for comments. Just time to post this late blip.
