Gridshell Testing

The IRES students nearly tested their bamboo gridshell today. I was actually quite proud of them! They only have two weeks to take in all of Rio PLUS complete some research, and if they can finish this test tomorrow, they'll be doing impressive work, in my book. They got "Braziled" as they're calling it, because after 11 hours of work, the lab supervisor told them they couldn't complete their test- because the department DIRECTOR was around and technically students shouldn't be working in the labs after 8, apparently. So we will try again tomorrow before our research seminar/workshop.

It was really neat to see them working together though- they seemed to know what they were doing and what needed to get done (and if they didn't, they asked Mike). While two students attached and soldered the strain gauges to the frame, another organized the wiring system to the computer, another asked about programming the software, and the remaining two prepared for tomorrow's presentations. They are all from different fields of engineering and science, but I think they are truly emblematic of an interdisciplinary team using their time, skills, and resources effectively.
