Xanthorrhoea
Xanthorrhoea (also known as grass tree) is a genus of about 30 species of flowering plants endemic to Australia and a member of family Xanthorrhoeaceae, being the only member of subfamily Xanthorrhoeoideae. That is more than enough long words for today.
This is a flower spike gone to seed, which has broken off from the parent plant and is laying on its side by the path. We could try to grow it, but it would take many years, as they are notoriously slow growing.
The flower spike can grow as high at 8 feet tall, and they look magnificent. When in flower they attract many insects and birds to feast on the abundant nectar.
