The Big Cruise Day 16: Setting the lock
A taste of things to come.
We are now on the Llangollen Canal heading for the Welsh hills! A feature of this canal is that there is a substantial and permanent flow of water from the River Dee at Horseshoe Falls to the reservoir at Hurleston Junction, a distance of 45 miles. This current flows with some force around the locks which slows you down (when going upstream) and tests your boating skills somewhat. Some steerers are a bit scared of it and avoid this interesting canal.
Anyway, our friends have gone ahead and my 'crew' is setting the lock for us.
Also note the overcast sky and the resulting 'dull' picture. The inclement weather continues. A foretaste of things to come ...
[Explanation: Big Cruise Blips begin on 9th April (where there's an introduction) and last nearly 8 weeks with a break in the middle. I am catching up with the back-blipping]
