A Day at the Seaside...!
We had a walk beside St Mary's Lighthouse this afternoon (seen in aerial view on Tuesday's blip).
The sky was blue in one direction when we started, but by the time we got back to the car the black clouds we'd seen in the distance had come across and hailed on us. Fortunately we had a good brolly with us; as you can see we weren't the only ones using a big umbrella. Typical British seaside weather!! (maybe I should go back to Miami...but I gather they've been having storms as well!).
This photo is taken from the edge of the carpark seen on Tuesday's blip, looking along the coastline (ie towards the top of Tuesday's photo). The white building with a dome seen in the distance is the "Spanish City", previously a permanant funfair and concert hall. It's currently being renovated with a plan that included a 50-bed, four-star boutique hotel, 20 apartments, a 1950s diner and a pleasure garden. The completion date was announced as 2014, but work was halted in 2013 because of a lack of funds. The project received a grant of £3.7m from the Heritage Lottery Fund in November 2013 and work seems to have restarted.
PS Further research indicates that, although the Dome has been saved and is being renovated, the plans are now less ambitious, being said to include an activity centre, community space, food and retail outlets but no mention of a hotel.
