Kransekake

We've been busy today, starting the preparations for the party tomorrow - dad turned 85 about 6 weeks ago, but we were in Thailand, and this was the first date that all his grandchildren could make.

This type of cake is made in Scandinavia as a special cake - the rings are like baked marzipan, and are held together with Royal icing.

This is our first effort - I think we need more practice at piping the icing.  Perhaps we'll get another chance in 5 years, for a 90th?
