Still Life Before Breakfast

I hated to upset this composition this morning--the whole arrangement looked like an eighteenth century painting. But we ate it anyway, and it was delicious.

All our eyes are on Austin, Texas, this weekend where our fabulous grandson is running the 110 hurdles in the NCAA Division West Track and Field Championship meet. In today's preliminary round he placed second in his heat, with a 13.79 personal best time. He's 12th out of the 45 competitors, and if he does well tomorrow he will go on to the finals in Eugene, Oregon. Not bad for a freshman. The only chance I had of a photo was from the live coverage on my computer screen, so all these words are a stand-in for a portrait of an outstanding athlete.
