A narrow boat crosses the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

This fantastic aqueduct was built by Thomas Telford in 1795 and completed in 1805 and carries the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee. There are 18 spans across its 336 yard length and its is constructed from hollow stone pillars and cast iron sections which were jointed with Welsh flannel and white lead compound. The width of the structure is 11 feet and the depth of water is 5 feet, 4 inches. The cost of building it was £47,000 which equates to £3,410,000 in todays money.
