Amazing Grace

The West Window of the parish church in Olney.  A beautiful church completed in 1325, and is famous for a number of things - including the Church of Olney Pancake Race.

However for me the most interesting fact is that the Curate in Charge between 1764 and 1781 was one John Newton, who was the slave trader who sought redemption and whilst here wrote the hymn "Amazing Grace" :


Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
