Sad Times

We got up and headed into town by lunch time with a list of jobs, culminating in a coffee in the Trago cafe. The working boats were starting to gather as we left and you can see them in the centre of this photo I took on the way home.

Home and the discovery of 1 missing chick, 1 dead chick and 1 chick with an injured leg. We think the chicks got under the bars of the run 'skirt' and were attacked by one of the many predators in our garden - cats, foxes, seagulls, magpies to name just the ones we see.

I am very sad. We probably won't replace them as we really only planned to keep one or two (we had a home for the 'spares'). Fingers are crossed that the one with the injured leg recovers. I will upload an extra later if I can get a decent shot - Vanilla is understandably being very protective.

UPDATE
The injured chick has got herself into the nest box. She is eating and drinking. She is the one at the bottom in the photo - we just need to decide who is Camilla and which out of Victoria, Mary and Elizabeth the other one should be!
