Oct. 1941, mom - dad & new car

Dad had purchased a new car with money he had saved by not drinking on the weekend.  Mom was instructed to not let any one in his family drive the car while he was gone.  Dad was on the USS Tucker when Pearl Harbor was bombed & mom did not know if he was alive for 6 months.  Dad said his crew shot down 6 planes but only got credit for 5 planes.  I wish I could get a copy of the official  record.  I used to have a "classified photo" of the Tucker after Pearl where they had rigged sails on the ship to test if the ship could sail out of harms way if the engines were knock out.  It make 3 knots.
