Goldfish

Both koi and goldfish (and I suspect some mixed breeds) inhabit the pond. However, this is the only fan tail goldfish. We know that he is a male as I saw him chasing a female goldfish that was loaded with eggs last week. It was an interesting chase as the fan tail was easily beaten by the much faster sleek tailed goldfish. Perhaps we will see babies soon and we will find out which male won the chase.

The fish are starting to recognize me as the source of their food and clamour all over one another to get close. Usually the goldfish has to wait as he is outmuscled by the koi, but somehow in this photo he made it to the top. Perhaps that is because the koi saw me with the camera and not the food bag.
