A Picture of the Pitcher

Way back in the Spring of 19 and 97, our daughter Julie was a pitcher for the Fenton High softball team.

Being a pitcher was hard, but being the parents of the pitcher was rough, too. While 7 of the fielders fielded a ball once in a while, the pitcher and catcher are involved in every play. Your hopes and expectations were based on balls and strikes.

We had a good year that year, winning our league title, and making a run in the state tournament. Plus, Julie was named the all-league pitcher.

Once you're a softball parent, you're always a softball parent, so when I saw this years team was playing at noon, I set off...getting there about 11:50. What I didn't know was that the game picked up from a Saturday rainout, so it was already the 5th inning, with the score tied 4-4. So, for my 5 dollar entry fee, I got to watch 2 innings, and see our girls lose 8-4.

Always hard to lose that last game of the season, but only one team gets to be state champion.

This sequence is of one pitch.
