horns of wilmington's cow

Star

It was Mel's birthday today, and we managed to find a break in the weather, after a breakfast of freshly baked Scandi cinnamon buns and coffee and presents, to head out for a walk round Big Saltoun Wood. There were fledgling Treecreepers, and Newts, and Great Diving Beetles, and Swifts, but it was once back home, with Mel snoozing in the living room, and me cleaning the chicken run out in anticipation of our upcoming holiday, that the Starlings took over. I don't know what the neighbour is feeding them (she mentioned it was a £1 bag from Lidl!), but they're loving it, and where we would get half a dozen in the past, there are a regular two dozen or so. But I had to knock on the window for Mel to see the 100 and more that had descended. Flying down to feed, then spooking to our trees and telephone wires, then descending again. Loads of young mixed in and constantly calling for food from their parents.

Superb meal out at Atelier in the evening to round things off.
