Museum piece
At the war museum in Darwin there are quite a number of World War two military pieces. This gun emplacement was constructed to offer protection for Darwin in the event of war.
It was rather limited in its movement as in the event of hostilities the expectation was for a naval invasion. Unfortunately for Darwin an air attack occured so these 9 inch guns were of no use.
This is a replica as the original ones ( three in total), were sold off to the Japanese as scrap iron a few years ago. Rather ironic considering they were the attacking nation.
