A Tribute to a Great Man

Like many, I was shocked and saddened to waken up to the news about the death of Charles Kennedy.  He was an alumni and Rector of the esteemed institution and so as a mark of respect the flag was flying at half mast.
We were working with school children today.  We had a great time - lectures about sleep, dog's brains and MRI scans, international work and research on Malaria.  The questions were superb.  The quote of the day for me was "no one in my family has ever gone to Uni. They didn't get the grades. I'm going to change that." University is not for everyone, but you should decide that for yourself, it should not be because University is "not for the likes of me" or because you can't afford it.  We told the children about the significance of the flag at half mast.  Who knows if a future politician was standing watching and listening. Let's hope they can still access higher education when their time comes in five years.
