from starter to finish
A friend gave me some sourdough starter and instructions on how to look after my "baby" - no pressure! It's taken a while for me to have the chance to bake, but at last, here are the results.
Blimey, it's complicated! You have to make a sponge, make a dough, make a proving basket if you don't already have one (thank you Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall, I don't). Then you have to turn your oven into a steam bath, and as if that wasn't enough, the way to tell that your bread is baked is that it will "vibrate" and "sound hollow".
After all that, I'm too drained to eat any.
