Suprise!
(Back Blip)
Friday dawned dull and damp. We decided to head down Derwent Water and we would walk Dean's Trod through the woods upto Ashness Bridge and beyond to Surprise View and Watendlath.
After making our way through the woods and along the hillside we finally made it to Ashness Bridge, where it was deserted. This may have something to do with the rain that was falling and the low cloud. After a couple of quick pictures, we decided to press onto Surprise View and have lunch there. The surprise was that there was no view! The low cloud had come even lower, so you couldn't see the top of Catbells or even Keswick end of the lake!
We sheltered under the trees and sat on my bivvy bag and ate lunch before deciding the head back rather than onwards and upwards into the clouds and to Watendlath.
At the bottom of the road we crossed to Ashness landing pier. I quickly decided to brave the elements and try to get a long exposure picture of the pier looking across to the soft outlines of the fells on the other side of Derwentwater.
When we got back to the campsite, it had significantly filled up ready for the bank holiday weekend, and the sun eventually came out late in the evening.
