Garden wildlife
Earlier today the sun was shining and it was warm, but funnily enough it didn't last! Anyway, whilst the warmth was with us i went on safari in the back garden in search of wildlife.
The exotic-looking plant is an Aquilegia hybrid which goes by the name of 'Double Pleat'. The label says that it is a double-pleated flower with white splashed blue centres resembling a ballerina's dress. I can't argue with that! The name Aquilegia comes from Aquila the Latin for eagle and refers to the talon shaped petals of the flower.
The extra photograph was taken earlier in the day when the sun was low and bathing everything in a golden light. It shows our resident male blackbird sharing his breakfast of good Scottish porridge oats with his three recently fledged offspring. Mrs Blackbird, who is now incubating the next clutch of eggs has joined them before heading back to her nest duties. The poor old male is looking frazzled; his devotion to caring for his brood is an example to all us fathers!
