We arrived when they were still setting up. It looked so pretty the tables with bright tablecloths and flags. Around 2pm the tables were starting to fill up with picnikers, the entertainment had started and there was a really nice communitiy spirit in the air. I couldn't help but eye up everybodies spreads. Each was so different and looked so appetising. The children were dancing to the music, the wine was being poured and the air heavy with chat. By 3.30pm the tables were all but empty. The rain had come and now the main street was a sea of brollies. Such a shame, after all the work that had been put into making the street party look so pretty. I hope those that remained had a good time. We came home though,to our street party. A sorry little event where only the two families who had organized it had turned out. Sheltering stoically under their gazebo. I had hoped the rain would have caused them to rethink.
