Can you say Ferruginous?

Unlike the geese, ducks keep their offspring away from potential trouble most of the time. Mother Duck had her Ducklings way out in the middle of the lake, and it's been quite the chore trying to identify it's species. After conducting extensive research, what I thought was a basic female Mallard actually turned out to be  species I rarely see around these parts. It's female clearly, as she tends to her young, however this Duck is of the Ferruginous variety. You learn something new everyday. Ha!
