Swans on the River Len

Rather late with this one, a busy day going up to London for the morning, then back to spend an hour or so on the allotment trying to catch up on a few things. This shot was taken in the evening sunshine but the location suprised us.

For as long as we've been out walking around Mallards Lake the two swans have raised their young on the lake (except for last year when they didn't raise a brood). We've always seen the young family being tended by both swans and indeed this year we say both birds with their young.

But tonight they were on the river and there was only one bird. What can have happened? Most unusual. Has something happened to the other bird? That would be so sad.

On the up side there was a family of goslings and we also spotted a grey wagtail on the banks of the lake, but the fate of the swans remains uppermost in our minds.
