Mother and baby
Not the best shot as the female Great spotted woodpecker and it's baby were in the oak tree in the field so some distance away but I was very pleased to see them. She has been flying down to the suet block and nuts and taking mouthfuls away back into the trees. I was hoping they would both come into shot but the bushes hid them well.
After the puffin pool we went to the farm shop wondering if any fruit was ready but the shelves were bare and the owner said it would still be a few weeks, hopefully with some sunshine ,until they were ready.
Luckily Mike had picked up a big punnet from Tesco , Perthshire strawberries which I would imagine are grown in poly tunnels. They do taste good.
A wet day with 'proper rain' , the sort of rain that actually waters the plants and makes the soil wet. The garden has been so dry I've had to water most days. The evening looked like it was going to be lovely and sunny but as I went outside I could see the dark clouds coming in from Inverness. Then the wind picked up and the heavens opened for about 15 minutes an now back to a calm evening.
