A day with the dead ...

I took myself off to the nearby cemetery today and had a fine time spotting all sorts of things that are completely new to me - red wing blackbirds, Baltimore orioles, American goldfinches, American redstart, redtailed hawk, a downy woodpecker, Eastern kingbirds, grackles, cow birds and my very first cardinals. Here's a female with her crest raised - possibly because she has a nest nearby.

In the evening we were all invited to a family meal by the newly weds - 21 of us! And a very fine evening it was too.

*I just proof read this entry and realise the title looks like some sort of private joke at the expense of the extended family - it truly isn't! *
