Saturday afternoon
Reading all weekend for the Council meeting next week. Had a break at midday for a run. I went down to the Western Springs Lake, and went around the main lake . I saw many different species of birds. One new one for this year was the Pekin Duck (also known as the Long Island Duck). This is a pure white duck bred in China from mallards. It provides most of the duck meat consumed in the USA. I have added a photo of one to the extras.
Also in the extras are a photo of a Karuhiruhi (Pied Shag), and one of a Canada Goose. But I chose this photo, because of its instant appeal for S, and because it shows the lake and the people and why it is a popular place on a Saturday afternoon, rather more than would a photo of a single bird.
On the rocks in the centre of the lake a Kawau tui (Little black shag) is drying its wings while a Karuhiruhi is preening; not the one in the extras.
Then back to the reading, until a pause to blip, and then assist in preparing dinner for S, daughter J and me. Followed by more reading.
