The Mighty Fall!

We slogged our way for nearly six hours to travel 100 miles in scorching heat in a car with broken aircon to get to Solihul for a titchy music festival.

Bostin'!

Tent up in moments and out for a reward beer and to catch the last bits of Claudio Simonetti's Goblin, fantastic 70s Italian prog rock band who made soundtracks for crap horror films. But then the highlight...The Fall. A band I've followed since 1978 and seen too many times, and before I met her, Clare used to sell t-shirts at their gigs for them.

The years haven't been kind to Mark E Smith, but then again he looked like an old man when he was 19. Clare described him as a cross between her 85 year old dad and Hurricane Higgins. The kids wandered up at one point with a look of horror on their faces that said 'what the hell is this crap?' It's the same crap they've been churning out for decades but it's uncompromising and challenging and rock and roll of sorts. Also the last band I would have thought to see at a festival.

As an antidote we danced our socks off to electro-swing and to a lesser extent glitch electronica. Not at the same time.
