Mosquitoes!

Today I woke up with a few mosquito bites from not sleeping in my net last night so this evening I assembled the net by using lots of bowlines, sailors are useful :)

I was picked up by Pooja at 10.30 to go to the CWIN office, it was already very hot. At the Office I was introduced to Sumnima who I've been in touch with since applying to CWIN. We had a chat about what I'll be doing. I've been given some exciting projects including a case study and report on how International Adoption has become a method of trafficking in Nepal which will involve interviewing government officials and speaking to children and other NGOs.

I was then showed around by Dhruba who I'll be working on the CAAFAG project with. CWIN are a large organisation with a few offices throughout Nepal. The head office in Kathmandu has the legal, advocacy, administration, human resources, finance, marketing and PR design departments including a radio and TV studio in these two buildings. Sumnima told me about opportunities to go to the children's home outside of Kathmandu some weekends to get some fresh air and meet the children, I'm looking forward to going there with Mara and Laura who has been sponsored by the Australian Government to work with CWIN for a year.

I then met Mara who is from the University of Edinburgh and in Kathmandu to complete research for her masters thesis with assistance from CWIN. Sumnima and Pooja took us both for lunch which was a bit of a laugh. Sumnima gave me advice about covering "my boobs" as Nepalise men will stare as they're not used to such things and asked me if there was a Jack in my life which they found hilarious. She said that she's my friend not my boss and has been looking after me which has been very kind of her.

That evening I went to meet Sheila, the girlfriend of a friend from Geneva and her friends who live in Sanepa. There are controlled power cuts here throughout the day so we had a lovely candle lit dinner and conversation until the power went back on at 10pm. I then slept Mosquito bite free thanks to the bowlines and mosquito net!
